Benjamin Pfau’s Isthmus was made in Bangkok, although it is not necessarily a study of the city itself. The images oscillate between the mantras of documentary practice and artistic preening. They are also fragmented; one senses the unerring and unnerving condition in which the photographs manifest Pfau’s clear dislocation of self, but also his environment.
